Data Warehouse Developer/Architect
FLSA Status: Exempt
Location: Cambridge, MA
Job description:
This position is part of the business applications group in the corporate information technology department and reports to the data warehouse manager. The Data Warehouse Architect’s role is to design and implement data warehouse solutions while ensuring high levels of data availability and accuracy. This individual is also responsible for defining data standards and models for warehouse architectures. The ideal candidate is a service-oriented team player who thrives in a fast paced, fluid environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and deploy complex data models (relational and dimensional) to support business initiatives using Cognos Framework Manager.
- Develop, publish, and deploy analysis cubes according to business requirements.
- Develop and deploy reports according to user requirements.
- Identify inefficiencies and gaps in current data warehouses, and leverage solutions.
- Identify data discrepancies and data quality issues, and work to ensure data consistency and integrity.
- Diagnose and resolve Cognos application access and performance issues, including individual reports.
- Develop and maintain relevant documentation to ensure consistent and up-to-date content.
- Coordinate and work with other technical staff to develop and enforce quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the research and selection of data warehouse products, services, protocols, and standards in support of development efforts.
- Provide second-tier user support for business authors and report consumers.
- Assist with the scheduling, distribution, bursting, and refreshing of corporate reports.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field required
- At least six years experience in design and development using Cognos BI platform, Business Intelligence Series 8 tools, Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query studio, etc.
- Four or more years experience in data architecture and modeling -- dimensional databases, normalized versus denormalized data, trending data capture techniques, etc.
- Experience with Cognos Analysis Studio required
- Experience with Metric Studio and Event Studio desirable.
- Strong SQL/PLSQL knowledge required
- Excellent technical support documentation skills
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skill
