Lead Systems Analyst

Reputable, growing Syracuse, NY company looking to add a Lead Systems Analyst to their team. This Systems Analyst will support 10+ financial systems on different technical platforms.

Main Duties:
-Become an expert in the technology architecture and design of a number of client-server applications in the Financial business area
-Provide necessary Production Support oversight and effectively troubleshoot issues in Distributed Financial Systems.
-Assist in the development of relevant business requirements by providing input in determining technical solutions
-Must be technically capable of evaluating quality of coding changes and facilitate testing of the revised code used by our Distributed Systems. Ensure that documentation is in compliance with SDLC and CMMi requirements.
-Develop test plans, cases, and conditions. Support UAT test planning and execution.
- Perform periodic Sarbanes-Oxley testing of Distributed applications. Perform other periodic testing as needed.
- Recommend methods of optimizing procedures to decrease costs and improve performance.

- 3+ years experience developing programs and administering Distributed systems, with in-depth knowledge of Cognos, Business Objects, Informatica,Visual Basic, Essbase, Windows, UNIX, Shell Scripting, SQL, MS Access, and Oracle.
- 3+ years as a Systems Analyst, experienced in developing and documenting Systems Specifications and technical test plans, supervising developers in program coding, testing, and implementation of large scale financial systems projects.

Cognos Planner / Business Intelligence Specialist

The Business Intelligence Specialist analyzes requirements and designs, develops, tests, installs and maintains application systems, programs, functions, services and other related software components in response to enterprise needs of high complexity. This individual has responsibilities for production support of and maintenance of existing Business Intelligence solutions. The incumbent will maintain expert knowledge of integration with related source systems. This individual will fully accommodate the customer’s business needs, resolve conflicting user demands and maintain positive customer relations with strong communication and coordination. This position provides leadership, technical guidance, and mentoring to others in areas of acquired expertise with limited guidance. Full technical management of large projects, including developing project plans, and tracking progress by multiple resources, to ensure completion of projects on time and on budget. The incumbent should have established areas of subject matter expertise and be able to communicate technical concepts into non-technical terms when working with non-technical constituents.

Key Accountabilities:

* Develop new and enhance existing Cognos Planning (Contributor and Analyst) applications
* Support existing production Cognos Planning (Contributor and Analyst) applications
* Develop procedures to administer Cognos Planning (Contributor and Analyst) applications
* Identify and validate software and infrastructure components required to implement technical solutions
* Prepare and review technical and logical design artifacts
* Submit solutions for review for compliance with best practices and standards
* Contribute to enhancing and/or optimizing department support processes and procedures
* Lead and guide internal quality assurance testing activities according to planned schedules
* Resolve development and support issues of moderate to high complexity or risk
* Provide systems administration support for Cognos Planning or BI applications
* Write reports using Cognos Planning-based data sources
* Learn and adhere to established change management processes
* Create and sustain open communication with business application users and stakeholders by learning the underlying business processes


* Must have experience developing Cognos Planning applications (Contributor and/or Analyst) from the ground up
* Must create and understand Cognos Planning technical requirements and design documents
* Must be able to work independently to develop Cognos Planning applications (Contributor and/or Analyst)
* Possesses analytical and critical thinking skills with technical problems of high complexity
* Knowledge of quality assurance and testing procedures, processes and techniques employed across various business and technical application platforms and environments
* Working knowledge with data access tools and SQL languages
* Effective oral and written communication skills
* Ability to collect information to ascertain the root cause of a complex issue and make timely decisions when recommending corrective action
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and assignments of moderate and high complexity, working tenaciously to meet or beat deadlines
* A degree in Computer Information Systems, related field or equivalent work experience

Cognos 8 consultant -- ASAP!

- Should be an "EXPERT" in Cognos 8 Report Studio report authoring
- Should be able to provide thought leadership to create various report types such as Cross-tab and Drill-through
- Should be able to create calculations across different queries (in different blocks and across different measures)

- Should be able to write efficient MDX queries
- Should be able to use specific MDX functions such as Tuples

Business Systems Project Manager (Business Lead for Cognos BI)

The Business Systems Project Manager oversees business systems analysis projects from start to finish. This position manages and coordinates the formulation and definition of systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. The Manager also devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems and oversees requirement definition, vendor evaluation, strategic systems planning, process reengineering, design, development, documentation, release management and production support.

Principle accountabilities:

Managing and coordinating the definitions of systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements;
Collecting and reviewing data, reports and queries used by the research community including incorporating requirements into system designs and validating against source systems;
Working with team members and data stewards to identify data to be captured from enterprise systems;
Mapping data from existing enterprise systems to meet specifications and resolving any data conflicts and/or redundancies;
Working with select members of the research community to ensure that the correct information is being captured, and is displayed in an understandable and meaningful way;
Designing business processes and flow charts that can be used for training materials and procedures;
Executing system tests based on scripts, as well as unscripted ad-hoc testing; identifying system issues prior to roll-out and communicating these issues through designated project reporting channels;
Working with project team to provide input on implementation and roll-out plans including providing support during system roll-out; working with researchers and project team to resolve any issues identified during implementation and developing evaluation materials for use in obtaining feedback from research community;
Providing input for various communication media used to report project progress (listserv, focus groups, periodic updates, web pages, etc.);
Performing other related duties as required or assigned.

Seven to 10 years of experience in a professional information technology environment;
A bachelor's degree, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
Ability to work in a shared project team environment;
Excellent verbal, analytical and written communication skills;
Ability to prioritize and multitask under deadline conditions;
Ability to solve or suggest solutions for problems in a collaborative environment;
Knowledge and appreciation of the business concepts and requirements as applicable to a large, academic research university;
Experience with BI implementations and BI tools; project management skills;
Knowledge of SQL and databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of functional lead experience;
Experience with Cognos BI and reporting applications.
