Beacon Mutual is currently redesigning its data warehouse and migrating from Cognos Series 7 to Cognos 8.4 BI tools. This initiative includes data integration and the development of dashboards, scorecards and other types of reports. Beacon is recruiting a Senior Data Warehouse/BI Developer with hands on experience with Cognos 8.4 and Data Manager to join our IS team that includes an additional BI developer and a business analyst.

The Senior Data Warehouse/BI Developer is a technical lead position, responsible for assessing requirements, defining strategy, technical architecture, development, delivery and support of Cognos 8 reporting, data integration and data warehouse projects for the enterprise. Candidate will be responsible for creating maintainable BI and DI solutions by conducting cost/benefit analysis for alternative technical approaches; assessing technical risk and incorporating flexibility in anticipation of future business needs. Candidate will participate in all aspects of the project lifecycle, serving as the subject matter expert on Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing and will mentor and train less experienced developers.

The ideal candidate will be a self starter with a strong work ethic and work experience that includes all aspects of the above duties.

Requirements include:

Bachelor's degree in a computer or technical discipline.
7 plus years of development/analysis experience with Cognos BI and data warehouse technologies including Data Manager ETL, dashboard, Cognos 8.4 Framework Manger and report and cube development tools, Cognos Connection, Event Studio and Metric Studio (desired).
Oracle 10g database experience with strong SQL and PL/SQL skills.
Data/dimensional modeling and technical design and documentation.
Strong analytic, problem solving and collaborative skills.
Ability to envision and design solutions that will ensure technical architecture is consistent and compatible with Company's technology direction.
Strong written/oral communication skills.
Insurance or Financial Services application development a plus.

A Cognos Lead is needed to join a Datawarehouse project team to for administration, support and enhancement of the Datawarehouse Cognos 7.3 environment. Duties will include administration, analysis, troubleshooting, and enhancing existing reports, cubes and catalogs or developing new ones on Cognos. Working with select members of the research community to ensure that the correct information is being captured, and is displayed in an understandable and meaningful way;
Designing business processes and flow charts that can be used for training materials and procedures;
Executing system tests based on scripts, as well as unscripted ad-hoc testing; identifying system issues prior to roll-out and communicating these issues through designated project reporting channels;
Working with project team to provide input on implementation and roll-out plans including providing support during system roll-out; working with researchers and project team to resolve any issues identified during implementation and developing evaluation materials for use in obtaining feedback from research community;
Providing input for various communication media used to report project progress (listserv, focus groups, periodic updates, web pages, etc.);
Performing other related duties as required or assigned.

Seven to 10 years of experience in a professional information technology environment;
A bachelor's degree, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
Ability to work in a shared project team environment;
Excellent verbal, analytical and written communication skills;
Ability to prioritize and multitask under deadline conditions;
Ability to solve or suggest solutions for problems in a collaborative environment;
Knowledge and appreciation of the business concepts and requirements as applicable to a large, academic research university;
Experience with BI implementations and BI tools; project management skills;
Knowledge of SQL and databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of functional lead experience;
Experience with Cognos BI and reporting applications.
